Things to Know About Jordan

Jordan felt just like home. When I say home, I mean back in Colombia where all the chaos and the magic happens at the same time, even at the same moment. Funny to be back home, being still so many miles away.

Jordan is definitely a very welcoming country. Everyone you ran into will be very kind and friendly. Police officers will be no different. Although they do have several checkpoints in almost any road, every time they stopped us they gave us a big smile and repeated “Welcome To Jordan” as if that was the only sentence they were taught. We really appreciated it, it made our day a little better. Kids were always trying to get your attention. They are all extremely nice with their brown skin and impressive green eyes.

Definitely Jordan is my type of people. They love colors and mosaics. Most prefer coffee rather than tea. Bakeries are around every corner and they stay open 24/7. Fruit stands are waiting for you to stop on the side of the road. In gas stations you will still find workers that will actually fill up your car. Not that I enjoy it, but just like in Colombia, they seem to smoke a lot.

Just like in my native country, traffic can get really crazy. They do have light up roundabouts but have no defined lanes. You do drive across hills, and find a lot of bumps in the least expected places. You do see the oldest and the newest cars altogether fighting for a spot. You have to deal with drivers that do not signal. They don’t honk, but light you up. We even saw cars reversing on major roads!

Jordan is full of cute surprises. ATM’s for example, will let you choose the denominations you want to receive. Stripped mosques and gold domes will be a common thing. Jordan currency will be stronger than the US dollar. Its not very expensive, but being more, its not very cheap.

Jordan is fantastic. It is still strongly tied to tradition, but it also moving fast to catch up with a modern style. In Jordan is where you will find the best preserved Roman Ruins in the world. In Jordan is where you will fall in love with the city that was carved in rock.

Make the trip! Jordan is a wonderful place to discover!
